Responsibilities of the position:
Works with others in the configuration and administration of Serena products, the corporate standard distributed systems configuration management (CM) tool suite. Responsible for the day-to-day tool administrative functions such as adding new users, creating new Products, design parts, reports, and developing various tracking metrics. Provides on-going support for CM tool users and mentoring users in the use of Serena products and tool related CM processes. Also responsible for implementing tool improvements, enhancements to tool functionality and tool upgrades.
Supports on-going improvements in documented Configuration Management policies, standards, processes and procedures necessary for establishing and maintaining integrity in software baselines in the tool. Enforces the overall Configuration Management Plan as it relates to CM tool use including the necessary procedures, policies and processes for establishing and maintaining integrity in software baselines in the Serena tools. Works closely with the Change Control Team to enforce CM and change management policies, rules, and processes.
Document and improve standard configuration management processes and procedures to include: version control, build and release management, CM audit reports, configuration identification and control, software product baselines, change management, and reporting in a controlled CM environment. May chair various process improvement teams. May also facilitate Change Control Boards (CCBs) and/or CM team status meetings. Participation in software process improvement efforts to build awareness of CM purpose and practice is also required. Additional tasks as assigned may be required.
Secondary responsibilities include supporting development projects software build management, development of build scripts, VB or Java scripting and tailoring of the Serena build and code installation functionality to meet the needs of Release Management Team. When requested duties include assisting in project change control activities, such as participation in projects change control boards and performing CM audits. When appropriate will perform or participate in manual or semi-automated deployments of code to various CareFirst distributed environments
Is familiar with industry best practices in the Software Configuration Management discipline.
This position is also subject to being "on call" for emergency situations requiring immediate resolution. Travel between all CareFirst locations may be required.
Responsible for coding, testing and analyzing 2-tier, 3-tier, or N-tier client/server applications. Supports existing business systems applications. Consults with business analysts to identify business needs and appropriate technical solutions. Responsible for designing and documenting technical requirements for business applications. We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to provide operations and infrastructure support for world class speech-enabled telephony, web, and mobile applications. These user-centric, multi-modal applications are used by millions of people in some of the largest metro areas in the U.S. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work effectively with clients, subject matter experts, and software engineers.
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:
The Sr. Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the operations and maintenance of the Logictree IT and hosting infrastructure for speech enabled telephony, web, and wireless applications. The support person will be responsible for providing Linux and Windows systems administration, TCP/IP network engineering, and SIP/SS7 application support for state and federal government IT projects. The Sr. Systems Engineer will also assist the Manager of Operations and Infrastructure with the development and implementation of improvements to the telephony and data telecommunications infrastructures while augmenting a support team of engineers providing 24x7x365 Tier 1-3 technical and help desk support. Additionally, the Sr. Systems Engineer will provide daily support for VOIP and PBX systems as well as core and 3rd party application installation, configuration, and troubleshooting support.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Provide Linux and Windows systems administration support.
· Provide IP telephony and TCP/IP network engineering support.
· Work effectively with the Operations and Infrastructure Manager to develop, plan, and implement changes and improvements to the IP telephony and data telecommunications infrastructure.
· Ensure that both data and voice networks are fault tolerant and that recovery mechanisms are aligned with Service Level Agreements.
· Provide engineering support for application and web server configurations deployed on UNIX and Windows platforms which includes mapping logical design to physical architecture – network components, server farms, clusters, load balancing, VIPs, URLs, etc.
· Provide T1-T3 help desk support to internal and external customers.
· Maintain and support an Asterisk VOIP PBX solution.
· Maintain and support CISCO network routers, switches, and firewalls.
· Provide Tomcat and Apache web administration support.
· Act as the liaison from the Operations team to the engineering and software development side of the Logictree IT team.
· Engineer storage design and integration solutions and provide MYSQL database administration support.
· Perform pre-launch customer site evaluations and documentation.
· Prepare systems cost estimates and cost-benefit analyses.
· Prepare technical reports on the operation of systems.
· Interface with multiple vendors regarding ongoing LogicTree projects and regarding contracted services and equipment.
